HUDA Clinic is a Muslim-run free health clinic in Detroit, Michigan - in fact the largest free health clinic in the whole state! This September they celebrated 20 years of the HUDA Clinic, and had a goal to raise $150,000 - their largest goal ever for a fundraising event.

Fortunately, LaunchGood’s new “Event Mode” was ready just in time for them to use it to boost their fundraising and hit their goal.

How to make a fundraising dinner really work

It’s not hard, but you have to make sure you’re well prepared to make your fundraising event a success:

  1. Invite the right people: many + big - It’s really essential you invite BOTH lots of people + big donors to your event. The big donors, although few, should make up 80% of your donation. But they’re only going to want to donate a lot if they see a lot of people excited and giving alongside with them
  2. Set up your LaunchGood page - This is a chance to tell your story. Not just the “what” of what you do, but the “why”. A donation is an emotional act, not a logical one - you have to touch people’s heart with your pitch.
  3. Make sure the venue has wifi/cell reception - This is surprisingly important! If people can’t get online, they can’t donate easily. Make sure the venue has both wifi and cell phone reception so donors can easily get online.
  4. Prepare team of volunteers - Ideally you’d have 3+ volunteers with laptops set up at the back of the room, and all the pledges, checks and cash are fed through them. LaunchGood can provide training ahead of time on how to properly log all the donations.
  5. Add QR code to your pledge forms, table - Make sure to add your QR code to the pledge forms and on every table at the dinner. If you want help designing your pledge form, we can do that for you. Make it easy and safe for donors to scan and donate themselves (rather than writing down their credit card number and processing it for them, which comes with many risks).

Accessing your “Event Mode”

The coolest thing is that every campaign on LaunchGood can access “event mode” already - no special setup required!

For the campaign creator and teammates, simply navigate to the admin bar on your campaign page and you’ll see the new ‘Event Mode’ icon on the right.

Those who are not logged in can view the campaign in event mode too: all they have to do is take the campaign page URL, replace the “.com” with ”.cc” and event mode will appear!
