The Current Situation in Libya

The nation, already facing its unique set of challenges, has been hit hard by the devastating effects of Storm Daniel. As reported by CNN, the storm's aftermath in Libya's northeast region has been catastrophic. The unprecedented rainfall led to the collapse of two dams, causing water to flood areas already overwhelmed by the storm.

The Devastating Impact of Storm Daniel

• Death Toll and Missing Persons: Tamer Ramadan, the leader of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies delegation in Libya, reported a death toll of at least 2,000, with an estimated 10,000 people missing. Among the deceased, at least 145 were Egyptian nationals.
• Derna's Dire Situation: The eastern city of Derna has been the hardest hit. Othman Abduljalil, the health minister of Libya’s eastern administration, stated that as many as 6,000 people from Derna are missing. Authorities believe that entire neighborhoods in Derna have been washed away. The city's healthcare infrastructure is also severely impacted, with hospitals no longer operational and morgues filled to capacity.
