GivingTuesday 2024 was nothing short of legendary for BASMA. This incredible organisation managed to pull off a jaw-dropping $238,368.05 in just one day! But this wasn’t just about hitting targets—it was a masterclass in preparation, strategy, and the power of a united community. Let me take you behind the scenes of this thrilling ride.

It all started with a plan
BASMA didn’t just wake up on GivingTuesday and hope for the best. Oh no, we had a plan. At a key meeting a week before the big day, we identified three game-changing strategies to maximise success:
- Bagging the Wild Card early: Getting 50 unique supporters by 7am GMT would secure a $1,000 incentive and unlock 12 golden opportunities to win.
- Power Hour domination: Timing those big donations from high-net-worth supporters during LaunchGood's "Power Hours" to rake in some serious bonus donations.
- Conquering the Leaderboards: Rallying as many supporters and donations as possible to clinch the top spots for “Most Funds Raised” and “Most Supporters.”
With these goals locked in, BASMA got to work. They reached out to local communities, mosques, and pretty much anyone who would listen! They recruited Champions—volunteers who rallied others to join the cause. The energy was electric, and by the time GivingTuesday rolled around, BASMA’s network was fired up and ready to go Alhumdullilah.
The early bird gets the wild card
Our first challenge? The Wild Card. We needed 50 supporters by 7am GMT. Did they do it? Of course they DID! By sunrise, only two organisations had hit this milestone, and BASMA was one of them. This early win bagged a $1,000 bonus and this victory energised the team and set the tone for the day ahead.
But we weren’t stopping there.
The thrill of Power Hours
Now for the high-stakes part: Power Hours. These intense one-hour donation windows were where the big prizes were up for grabs.
Power Hour #1 (11am GMT)
Picture this: BASMA vs Hounslow Muslim Community Centre in an epic battle for first place. Both organisations were raising tens of thousands of dollars, with the leaderboard flipping like a seesaw.
The LaunchGood office? Absolute chaos. Adrenaline pumping, hearts racing. In the last five minutes, two massive donations came in that shook the leaderboard. We raised an impressive $51,134.57, but we were beaten to first place by just $500.
It was gutting—but instead of giving up, the team was more fired up than ever.
Power Hour #2 (7pm GMT)
This time, BASMA came in swinging. We rallied the troops on a live Google Meet call, shared the leaderboard screen, and coordinated donations to perfection.
The competition was fierce, but the community came through big time. BASMA did amazing, raising $96,158.91 and winning a $5,000 bonus.
The final countdown
With GivingTuesday winding down, the focus shifted to the leaderboards. BASMA held the top spot for “Most Funds Raised” all day—until the final hours when Celebrate Mercy swooped in with a flurry of donations.
We finished in second place, but guess what? That still meant a sweet $15,000 bonus, bringing our total incentive winnings to $21,000 Alhumdullilah
Lessons from success
BASMA’s GivingTuesday campaign showcased the power of community, strategy, and resilience. Their efforts demonstrated:

Here’s to many more victories like this one however this is not the end. Before GivingTuesday BASMA had already raised just over $6000 and today since being on the LaunchGood platform they have already raised a whopping $969,892 of $1,166,730.
